Foundation Crack Repair in Shreveport
A crack is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Some Shreveport cracks are cosmetic; some are your house telling you the corner is dropping into the clay. We repair both — but only after measuring which one you have, so you’re not repatching the same crack every two years.
The Cracks We See Most in This Market
Stair-Step Brick Cracks
The signature crack of the Ark-La-Tex. Brick veneer is rigid; when one part of the slab settles even half an inch, the mortar joints let go in a diagonal staircase pattern, usually starting at a window or door corner and running down toward the low side of the lot. On our red clay, these cracks often open each dry summer and close each wet winter — which is useful information, because a crack that changes with the seasons is telling you the soil is still moving.
Slab and Garage Cracks
Hairline shrinkage cracks in a concrete slab are nearly universal and usually harmless. Wider cracks, cracks with one side higher than the other (vertical displacement), or cracks radiating from a garage column or corner deserve measurement — they often track settlement. Garage slabs, poured thinner and holding heavy loads, crack and drop first.
Drywall and Interior Cracks
Diagonal cracks running from the corners of door and window frames toward the ceiling are the interior mirror of stair-step brick. Hairline straight seams along drywall tape are usually just seasonal framing movement. We can tell the difference in minutes with a level and a crack gauge — that’s the whole point of the free inspection.
Repair Methods
- Epoxy injection — for structural cracks in concrete: high-strength epoxy welds the fracture back together and restores rigidity. The right fix for cracked garage columns and displaced slab sections once the movement is stopped.
- Urethane injection — flexible, expanding sealant for cracks that need to stay watertight while accommodating minor movement, like active-shrinkage cracks and cold joints.
- Mortar repointing and brick repair — stair-step cracks in veneer are repaired after stabilization, matching mortar where possible so the repair disappears into the wall.
- Stabilization first, patch second — if measurement shows active settlement, we stabilize with piers or fix the water before cosmetic repair. Patching over movement is painting over rust.
How to Read a Crack Between Inspections
You don’t need to be an engineer to track what your house is doing — a pencil, a ruler, and 60 seconds twice a year covers it:
- Mark crack ends and dates with a pencil; photograph with a ruler in frame
- Width: under 1/8" usually cosmetic; 1/4" or more — get a free inspection
- Displacement: if one side is higher, that’s movement, not shrinkage
- Growth: a crack that adds length or width each season is active
- Pattern: stair-step in brick + diagonal interior cracks at the same corner = settlement signature
